After lunch, Giovanni asked Mira to come
out into the garden with him, so she did. He stopped first to put on some sun
block and a hat. Even though it was well after noon, it was still too early for
him to be out uncovered. They walked along the vegetable patch and then the
orchard. They talked all along the way about how Abraham and Giovanni had
worked season after season to get everything just right. Giovanni was feeling
more comfortable around Mira now that his examination was over, and he’d become
quite chatty.
